Translators of distinction
Gabriele Haefs and Jean-Baptiste Coursaud received The NBU (Norwegian Writers for Children) prize on October 25. They have both been working persistently promoting Norwegian children's literature in Germany and France respectively.
Gabriele Haef is German and has studied Scandinavian languages. She has recomended and translated a great number of Norwegian books for children and young people for the German market. She has along with Jostein Gaarder received Den Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis for the German edition of "Sophie's World", as well as Den Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis' Prize of honour, for her translational work as a whole.
Jean-Baptiste Coursaud is French, lives in Berlin and knows many languages. He promotes Norwegian literature in France enthusiasticly, especially literature for children and young people, and he has provided for a great number of publications of Norwegian books in French. He is now working as a translator and is the main source of information concerning Norwegian literature for French publishers.
