Per Petterson awarded the Nordic Council's Prize for Literature
Petterson receives the prize for the novel I Curse the River of Time.
Petterson is awarded the 2008 Nordic Council’s Prize for Literature for his novel I Curse the River of Time. The novel was published in Norway in 2008 and has so far been bought by 17 foreign publishers. It has also won Petterson the Norwegian Critics’ Prize and the Brage Prize. In Norway, the current print run is 100,000, and the book has been highly praised by critics in Germany, Denmark and Sweden, the three countries where it has been published thus far.
Also his novel Out Stealing Horses (2003) has won Petterson enormous international success. This title has so far been sold to 46 foreign publishers. For this novel, Petterson has received massive international attention and recognition both in terms of literary prizes, sales figures and reviews – securing the author an exceptional standing in the Norwegian history of literature.
For this novel, Petterson received the Booksellers’ Prize and the Critics’ Prize in Norway. In the UK, he was awarded the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize and The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, as the first Norwegian author ever. In France, he won three prestigious literary prizes. In the US, the novel was elected one of the 5 Best Fiction Books of 2007 by New York Times, one of the 10 Best Fiction Books of 2007 by Time Magazine and one of the 10 Best Fiction Books 2007 by Entertainment Weekly.
Out Stealing Horses has now sold more than 1 million copies world wide (350.000 in the US, 250.000 in Norway, 160.000 in Germany)
