NORLA's activities Spring/Summer 2011
This spring NORLA is arranging seminars during the Norwegian Festival of Literature at Lillehammer, as well as a seminar for translators of Norwegian literature into English. NORLA will also participate in an international qollocuium on translation, we will be meeting Dutch and Belgian publishers in The Hague and attend a book launch as well as visit publishers in New York. In August, NORLA will be attending the Beijing International Book Fair.
In late May a poetry festival in Paris offers Norwegian poetry, and June sees a festival in Poland devoted to contemporary Norwegian literature. For more details, please see the list below

Norwegian Festival of Literature in Lillehammer 24 - 29 May
This year's festival theme is 'Cities' and as 2011 is also the Norwegian Year of Architecture, NORLA is hosting an international seminar on Architecture and Books, with invited publishers from USA, China, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden and France. Also Norwegian architects, publishers of books on architecture and other invitees are participating.
The seminar is held on Wednesday May, 25 and is open by invitation only. However, as there are still some seats we invite you to send us an email as soon as possible should you be interested in participating at the seminar.
Each year NORLA invites a group of translators of Norwegian literature to participate at the festival. This year, ten translators of Norwegian literature will be taking part in the festival, among them translating Norwegian literature into nine different languages; English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Czech, Chinese, Polish and Hungarian.
As in previous years, NORLA is cooperating with the Norwegian Association of Publishers in arranging a seminar during the festival for invited international publishers. The seminar offers an insight into Norwegian contemporary fiction, as well as on overview of the Norwegian book trade and publishing business. This year publishers from Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark and the USA will participate.

NORLA to 'Lost and Found in Traducture' in Windsor 27 - 29 May
Andrine Pollen has been invited to participate in the international seminar 'Lost and Found in Traducture - An Interdisciplinary colloquium on International Developments in Translation'. The seminar is held at Cumberland Lodge, Windsor, May, 27 - 29 and is organized by Sidensi, an international organization that aims to promote, inspire and develop awareness in the importance of translation for intercultural dialogue and exchange.

Poetry Festival 'Marché de la Poesie' in Paris, 27 - 30 May
The Nordic countries were guests of honor at this year's book fair 'Salon de Livre' in Paris. Nordic countries are also in focus during the poetry festival in Paris May 27 - 30, where Norwegian poets Gunnar Wærness, Toril Wardenær and Sigbjørn Skåden participate.

NORLA to New York 3 - 8 June
Translation rights to Johan Harstad's novel 'Buzz Aldrin, What Happened To You in All The Confusion' has been sold to 11 languages. The book is also adapted into a TV-series to be broadcast in Norway in the autumn. In June the book will be published in English by the American publishing house Seven Stories Press, and the author will be present. The book has been translated into English by Erik Skuggevik and Deborah Dawkin with translation subsidy by NORLA.
NORLA's Margit Walsø and Andrine Pollen will also participate in the book launch. The author's visit is supported by the Norwegian Consulate General in New York in cooperation with NORLA.

When in New York, NORLA will also be visiting several American publishers.
NORLA to meet publishers in The Hague, June 9
NORLA will participate in a publishers' gathering initiated by the Norwegian ambassador in The Hague. Publishers from both Belgia and the Netherlands are invited.
Polish festival devoted to contemporary Norwegian literature 12 - 24 June
The Polish political magazine "Krytyka Polityczna" (Political Critique) is arranging a Norwegian literary festival under the name "The Flow of The Norwegian Alternative".
For the festival the magazine will publish an anthology of contemporary Norwegian literary texts translated into Polish with translation subsidies from NORLA. The anthology includes excerpts of books and short stories, plays, articles and interviews, and the texts are chosen because they are either left-wing, politically engaged, or present contemporary economy, society and ways of living in a democracy as well as the welfare state of Norway.

Seminar for English translators, 15 - 16 June
In cooperation with the Norwegian Embassy in London NORLA will arrange a seminar in Oslo June, 15-16, for invited English translators of Norwegian literature.

1 August: Application deadline for travel grants for authors and lecturers to visit higher education institutions abroad
On behalf of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NORLA manages travel grants for authors and lecturers visiting higher educational institutions abroad, where Norwegian is taught. The next application deadline is 1 August 2011.

NORLA to Beijing Book Fair 31.8. - 4.9.
In increasing number of Chinese publishers are showing a strong interest in Norwegian literature. NORLA will for the second year running be participating at the Beijing Book Fair.
